no time ---- no time ---must run

Ok so who are those strangers? My mother, aunt and I am the one standing with sunglass on.

I have not have a lot of time to blog or quilt as my aunt (the one in the wheelchair, is visiting my mother for 2 weeks. My mom is 94 (two months short of ), my aunt is 86. This pic was taken at the Sunday farmer's market at the civic center of our county. My aunt had never been to one this large. It is quite big. We have gone out on the last 2 weekends & some evenings when I would get home from work. Thank goodness Mom lives in the apartment below ours. She is close but not right with us all of the time. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother and being with her. But a degree of separation is most surely necessary. My aunt goes home this Sat. Then I can get back to more quilting & bloging.

Meanwhile I thought I might finish what I started on the last blog. That is to say share some detail of this quilt that blogger wouldn't let me share last blog. To refresh you, The center is needle work that my grandmother did in the 40's. I tea dyed the other material to match the aged look and colors of the 40s as at the time I started this quilt, repo fabrics were not readily available.

Above the center piece are 2 umbrellas. The pink parts are double reverse applique. The green handle is appliqued on top.

As you can see I embroidered with variegated thread that matched the original as closely as possible. Latter I found some of the thread that my grandmother used. I looked up the brand from the label. That thread company went out of business about 1945 so that gives you an idea of when she made the puppies.

Your mother looks amazing for 94! It's so nice when elderly parents can still manage to be independent, for them as much as for us, the caregivers. The quilt looks great.

Oh, how great! I have some of my grandmother's thread and embrodery floss, too. You are so lucky to still have your mother and be able to get information about your treasures.
