I have been told that I need to share a little more completely when I share my bits of quilting philosophy. So to back up to my blog before last.
I try to learn something new from each project or build on a skills that I already have been working on. In this example I worked on a few techniques and learned (confirmed) something about myself.
The name of this Large wall hanging is autumn Stage. It's center, through the burnt umber, is a cheater panel. I thought it was handsome and a good opportunity for working on free form stippling in colors that accent the project. I was going to make it's outside boarder of dark green however I finally decided to make these autumn leaves. Here is the lesson confirming what I already knew. "I am a POINTLESS quilter." By the way the stage isn't tropuntoed as it appears. It is just that the tight, small stippling in the leaves gives the Stage that appearance.
This pointlessness prompted me to take a "Dear Jane" class. We can discuss that latter.

I love the colors on your quilt. It takes a while for people to find your blog but don't get discouraged. It's so exciting to get comments and other people's ideas can be very helpful.
Found your blog through your comments on Laura's quilt stories. I'm a rookie at the blog, too, so we can stumble along together.
Loved the picture of the view. You might check into Joen Wolfrom's (spelling?) book, Quilted Landscapes. She has a marvelous technique for strip piecing just such a wonderful scene. I took a class from her years ago.
I think it's a very neat piece Rae,and a good way to learn more and more. It's good if you can conquer the "point"place and pieceing. It's been a bug-a-boo for me over the years. I finally realized that the problem for me lay in the "sizing up" of the HST's. IF I do that right, I keep my points.
But on the other hand, we mavericks don't let points bother us, there or not there, it's all just part of the process.
I'm not sure you can talk about maverick and perfection in the same sentence...*G*
I showed the deer wallhanging to DH and he says, "You say you love me, but you have never made me a deer quilt!" See what trouble you have gotten me into? I love the colors in it and the leaves. I used to be a pointless quilter, too. And I still tend to be- and that's fine by me- life's too short to live by some one elses rules about what is a success. I think you did a grand job- and that's a success!
