In The Forest

Isn't it aggravation when you have blogged, blogger even says that your last update was that day, but then the blog never shows up. That's what happened last night, 7/31. But then tonight I was going to tell you more about my new quilt and low and behold NO Blog from last night. Well I guess I can think of it as a 2nd chance.

One thing I wanted to say is that I missed checking in on all of your blogs while the ring was down. I am glad you are all back.

During the intense, extra long, record breaking heat spell we had, I hardly did any quilting. So my Hawaiian blocks have changed little. I have started a new quilt thou. While looking through the "Compete Book of Quilting" by Diane Hill (a present from my sister this past spring), I was caught by a quilt they call A Walk in the Forest (I believe). I wasn't caught because I liked it but because it triggered my imagination as to how I would quilt the way I look at the Forest.
In fact I didn't like their quilt very much. Their instructions were good thow. Basicly they did a liberated 5 point log cabin but the acctual quilt didn't look much like it.

I decided to use a liberated log cabin approch also. My first time at liberated log cabins. These are two of the 10 blocks that I have been working on. That is a little under 1/3 of the blocks that will be in the quilt. The finished size of the blocks is to be 11 inches. The one on right is getting close to the right size. Yes, Yes. I know the blocks have to be bigger then the size I want in order to trim them down to the right size.

Two pictures that help inspire my design of "In The Forest." (The name of my quilt.)

Another insperation for this quilt comes from my anticipation of our camping trip that will happen in two weeks. We will be camping in a beautiful area of Nothern California. I will try to show some of our pictures while we are camping.

I really like your colors. I am thinking of a liberated log cabin. I tried a normal one and found it boring but this looks like a great way to get rid of scraps.
